Baby #3 is 1 week old 04/29/2010
Well the babies are growing fast. As always, mom & dad are doing a great job taking care of them. I candled egg #4 today and as I thought it was not fertile. A one week photo will be added to the photo section. Add Comment Growing 04/27/2010
Not much happening just alot of growing taking place. A one week photo has been placed in the picture section. Still have egg #4 in there, I haven't bothered to candle it but will do so tomorrow, hatch day, if nothing happens.. I am guessing it is not fertile but I could be wrong. Baby Bird #3 04/22/2010
And another one hatched out this morning. Lolita let me clean out the pine shavings in her nest box and put in fresh ones this morning. In the process I get to hold the babies. I move them to another part of the nest while I remove any soiled shavings, put in fresh shavings and move the babies back to the spot I took them from. I do this all without touching the egg. It rests on top of its pile of shavings. Odie & Lolita are the exception to this kind of cleaning most breeder pairs would not allow you to do this. They supervise and when I am done they continue to eat. Making Progress 04/21/2010
Took a look this morning while cleaning the cage and Egg #3 has started to pip. Baby Bird #2 04/19/2010
Went down to give Odie and Lolita their breeding mash this evening and took a peek at the progress and there was baby bird #2. See photos Making Progress 04/19/2010
Checked in on baby bird #1 this morning and saw that egg #2 has started to pip. All being well we should have baby bird #2 soon. Baby Bird #1 04/18/2010
All nice and pink with a fuzzy little bum. Hatched out this morning and being taken care of by Odie & Lolita. See photo in the baby pictures section. Making Progress 04/17/2010
Checked in this evening when Lolita came out for her evening food. The egg has pipped a little more.... Pipped Egg 04/17/2010
Egg #1 started to pip last night, if all goes well we should have a baby soon. Egg #4 04/13/2010
Egg #4 was laid on March 31. I did not candle the eggs this time. She would usually come out of her nest in the morning while I clean the cage allowing me to take that time to candle but instead she has been coming out later in the day. We will just have to wait and see. The first egg is due to hatch out this weekend. My posts will become more frequent at that time. | M&L AviariesA Blog of current events including baby availability ArchivesFebruary 2012 |
